The chain Meliá Hotels International continues its strong expansion in distant markets, according to a policy that has guided his steps in recent years. As part of the tour that the vice president of the Spanish hotel, Gabriel Escarrer, being carried out by several countries in the Middle East and Asia Pacific, has signed two new major projects, one in Qatar and one in Indonesia.
The first to open will be the Meliá Doha, whose opening is scheduled for the first quarter of 2015 The hotel will occupy 39 floors of the tower Bin Samickh in West Bay, the most coveted area of the Qatari capital. It will have 282 rooms and suites, several restaurants and facilities focused on wellness and beauty. In relation to this project Escarrer emphasized the prosperity of Qatar, the country with the highest income per capital in the world. "To Meliá, the Arabian Gulf is a natural focus for the expansion of our luxury brands," stressed the hotel, partner in this project with Qatar Real Estate Tamniyat, owner and developer company. Meliá will take over management only.
The second of the signed projects is the Gran Melia Bintan, a hotel that will open in late 2017 in Indonesia. In this country the Escarrer chain has a long history. It was there in the 80s ventured abroad to open the Meliá Bali, an establishment that still remains in the company's portfolio. In Indonesia as well as managing or preparing to open another 5 hotels in total.
The Gran Meliá Bintan will be the second hotel in Indonesia Meliá operate with this brand, this time in the new fashion destination for high-end tourism resort. It will offer 120 suites and 38 villas with 1, 2 or 4 bedrooms, a spacious and luxurious Mediterranean-style resort. As in the case of Qatar, Meliá will reserve management, staying out of the ownership of the property, which corresponds to Bintan Resorts.
Meliá portfolio currently consists of over 365 hotels located in 40 countries, operating under different brands. However, the focus of expansion of the company is set to destinations such as China, USA or the UAE.
